If you're new to begleri, this is a great first stop to see what resources are available to consume. This is a list of resources that helped the most between the majority of community members.
First thing's first -- You need beads. There are many DIY solutions to this available

Cord Length
There are a few methods of determining the length of your joiner. The length of the joiner is only measured as the distance between the two beads. This kind of thing is entirely subjective, so it's tough to say "this is the right way to do this", but here are a few ways to try until you figure out what you like:
"Long game":
(pics to come)
- Palm + 2" - Lay the set in your palm, with the cord resting horizontally across your palm. Add 2 inches to the end of your palm. That's where the top of the other bead should start.
- Spread fingers - Lay your hand flat on the table and spread your fingers out as widely as you can. The joiner should be the length of the distance between you pinky and thumb, going around the tops of your fingers.
"Short Game":

- Palm - Lay the set in your palm with the cord resting horizontally across your palm. The beads should be just hanging off your hand with no cord hanging off.
Weight
The weight of your set is a very subjective thing and everyone likes different weights. If someone tells you that the weight you're using is wrong, ignore them. Weights in professionally-made begleri generally fall into the range of 20g-30g. My personal opinion is that heavier sets are a little better for beginners because the weight allows for the bead to power through small mistakes in finger position, etc. I highly recommend for beginners to start in the 26-30g range. Of course this is not a requirement, use what you like!
Now that you have beads, time to learn some tricks
