You can use spinner bearings (r188) or skate bearings (608) (also used in spinners) in stacks to make cheap sets of Hydras. For the context in this post, Skate bearings = 608 (big ones). Spinner bearings = r188 (small, also yoyo bearings) 3 or more spinner bearings per side for one set. 1-2 skate bearings per side for a heftier set. Also: New hex nut + bearing build (2019): Supplies:
2 nylon or steel hex nuts (I use 5/16") 2 608 skate bearings 2 washers (I use steel #10D) 2 Cord stabilizers (1/4" x 1/4" nylon spacers work for 5/16" nuts) Super glue Instructions:
1. Glue the washer to the middle post on the bearing. 2. Glue the hex nut to the top of the washer. 3. Optional -- Glue a cord stabilizer into the hex nut. 4. Repeat for the other bead. You can also opt for a single skate bearing per side, hooked up so that you tie the cord around the bead instead of putting it through the middle and knotting. This can be difficult to use due to the bead constantly twirling though. Turn those old spinners into new begleri.
